Be sure to follow these wet-weather driving tips

As a driver in the state of Maryland, you know that the fall months can bring quite a bit of rain to the area. This can impact your life in many ways, including the way that you drive.

As temperatures cool off, wet roads can turn into a sheet of ice. This makes it a challenge to navigate to and from your destination in a safe manner.

Here are some wet-weather driving tips that you need to follow at all times:

  • Slow down to a comfortable speed. Even if you are in a rush to reach your destination, you don’t want to drive too fast. The faster you drive the more likely it is that you will cause an accident.
  • Leave more room between your vehicle and others. You should never drive too close to other vehicles when the roads are wet, as it can take longer to slow down if you have to brake hard.
  • Don’t use cruise control. As tempted as you may be, using this in wet conditions increases the chance of an accident.
  • Steer in the direction you want to travel in the event of skidding. While you hope to avoid skidding altogether, this could happen in wet conditions. If it does, you should steer in the direction you want your vehicle to travel. Also, don’t slam on the brakes, as this will only make matters worse.

In an overall sense, you should take a high level of caution when driving in wet conditions. It can be a challenge to slow down and remain patient, but it’s an absolute must.

If other drivers don’t take the same level of caution, there’s a greater chance that your vehicle could be struck. If this happens, call 911, receive immediate medical attention, and then learn more about your legal rights.
