A traffic collision can have a major impact on the financial, emotional and physical well-being of a victim and his or her family. An out-of-state woman recently received a sentence of 20 years in prison due to causing an accident in 2014 that led to two individuals being seriously injured. One of the individuals suffered a traumatic brain injury. The woman was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
The first victim was in a coma for a month as a result of the traumatic brain injury. The second victim suffered several broken ribs, broken vertebrae, a punctured lung and a lacerated kidney. The Nevada woman was sentenced in a county court and is set to serve at least five years before she becomes eligible for parole.
Whether an individual suffers a bump on the head or a more serious blow to the head, brain damage can be difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to live with for the rest of an individual’s life. This is all the more reason that professional medical help should be sought, even when the bump seems relatively innocuous.
