Maryland car accidents cause financial issues for those involved

Everyone has experienced a moment on the road when they realize that they may not be able to stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision. Unfortunately, such car accidents can cause serious injuries, or even death, to those involved. In addition to their physical injuries, those involved — or their surviving families in the case of a fatality — can face serious financial consequences as well. After a tragic accident in Maryland, for example, one family will have to cope, both emotionally and financially, with the death of their loved one.

The accident occurred in the afternoon on a mid-March day. A cement truck, driven by a 70-year-old man, was allegedly unable to stop in time in response to slowing traffic. As a result, the truck slammed into the back of a vehicle, causing an accident that ultimately involved four additional vehicles. Reports indicate that the cement truck eventually came to a rest on top of one of the motor vehicles.

The driver in that vehicle, a 54-year-old man, died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. Four others were injured, one requiring transport to the hospital. Police say that alcohol and speed were not a factor in the fatal accident. Rather, it was caused by driver error.

Most families are left stunned at the news of the unexpected loss of their loved ones. In addition to a difficult emotional recovery, many surviving family members of victims of car accidents are left with an uncertain financial future. They are faced with funeral expenses while also coping with the loss of their loved one’s income. In Maryland, those in this type of situation can seek relief in a civil court. If they can prove to the court that their loved one’s death resulted from another’s negligence, the court could award them with monetary damages for financial hardships created by the incident.
