Maryland man suffered serious injuries in a truck accident

Many people are involved in motor vehicle accidents every week. These accidents range in severity from minor to serious. For many, their worst fear would be involvement in an accident that leaves them trapped in a burning car. One Maryland man, who suffered serious injuries in a truck accident, remains hospitalized after such an accident.

The accident, that actually involved damage to five vehicles, occurred in the afternoon of a late January day. Police claim that a box truck driven by a 33-year-old man slammed into the back of a sedan that was waiting for traffic to clear in order to make a left turn. The force of the impact pushed that car into oncoming traffic where it struck a third vehicle. The box truck also continued into oncoming traffic where it struck a fourth car driven by a 41-year-old man. Both the truck and the fourth vehicle drove over an embankment, where the driver of the car became trapped as the car caught on fire.

Police officers responding to the scene were able to extinguish the fire. After an hour of working to remove the man from the car, emergency responders were finally successful. The man was transported to the hospital by helicopter where he is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the box truck, who police claim is at-fault, was uninjured. A fifth vehicle, not directly involved in the accident, was damaged by debris.

While the full extent of the hospitalized man's injuries is unknown at this time, it is easy to assume that he will face a long recovery and substantial medical bills. Many people injured in such an accident find that the financial ramifications, which are sometimes compounded by the injured party's inability to work, quickly become overwhelming. In order to seek financial relief, those who have suffered serious injuries in a truck accident in Maryland have the option of filing a personal injury claim in a civil court. If they can prove that their injuries resulted from someone else's negligence, they could be awarded damages that help with monetary damages that are recognized by our personal injury laws.
