When an accident involves a motorcycle and a car, the brunt of the injuries are often suffered by the occupants of the motorcycle. Motorcycle accidents cause numerous deaths each year, and leave many more suffering from serious injuries. In these cases, Maryland police are often given the task of finding out what circumstances lead to the accident, so they can get to the bottom of who was responsible.

In a recent case, a motorcycle operator has been sent to the hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with another vehicle. Police have stated that the accident occurred when the driver of a car was attempting to turn left at an intersection. A preliminary investigation revealed that the car failed to yield to the motorcycle, which caused the two vehicles to collide.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to an area hospital to be treated. Hospital officers have listed the condition of the motorcycle operator as critical. Meanwhile, the driver of the car also suffered injuries. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Spring has arrived in Maryland, and that means, among other things, that motorcyclists will be out and about enjoying the open air. With the freedom of the road comes risk, however, and unfortunately riders suffer serious injuries each year because of other drivers’ negligence. Motorcycle awareness is a constant struggle in Maryland and throughout the U.S., and a recent accident in Frederick County illustrates why.

A 22-year-old rider was travelling on a road in Frederick at about 1 p.m. on May 30 when he approached the intersection of Old Annapolis Road and Equestrian Way. Little did he know that a van hauling a utility cart was about to turn in front of him.

As the van made a left turn, the motorcyclist’s bike collided with the tree-filled cart, and the rider was ejected. He was wearing a helmet when the crash happened, but his injuries were such that he had to be transported by air to a shock trauma center in Baltimore for treatment.
