1 pedestrian struck by minivan, suffers serious injury

An accident which occurred recently resulted in the serious injury of one woman. The accident occurred in Baltimore around 2 a.m. and involved a minivan and a pedestrian, police say. It is not entirely clear what caused the driver of the vehicle to strike the woman, but when Maryland residents suffer serious injury due to the fault of another party, they are typically entitled to file a personal injury suit against the responsible party or parties.

The woman was walking out of a bar in Fells Point around 2:12 a.m. and was suddenly struck by a minivan, the driver of which may have been involved in a fight that had gotten out of control, Baltimore police say. The driver of the minivan was a 28-year-old Parkville man. Police have reason to believe that the man had gotten into an altercation that involved several people.

Several of these people allegedly involved in the altercation tried to enter the man’s minivan before it rammed into a car that was stopped, backed up, then jumped a curb before striking the woman who had just then walked out of the bar, police say. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she is listed as being in serious but stable condition. Police say she suffered a bruised lung, broken ribs, trauma to her pelvis, lacerations on her hips, as well as a fractured skull. The driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and is currently facing several charges, police say.

A car accident involving a pedestrian can have devastating consequences on that individual’s life. This victim will likely face extensive medical bills, in addition to ongoing physical therapy. However, she has the right to pursue a personal injury claim in a civil court in Maryland and, if the court rules that the driver was negligent in a manner that caused or contributed to the serious injury suffered by the woman, a judgment for monetary damages may be awarded. Victims of these kinds of accidents typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney in order to assess the validity of their claims, as well as to seek effective representation in pursuing financial relief.
