Head-on car accidents in Maryland can cause serious injury, death

While most people are logically aware of their mortality, it is difficult to fully grasp the delicate nature of a human life. Most would hope that they will die after living a full, happy life after they have had a chance to settle their finances and say goodbye to friends and family. However, this is certainly not always the case. For example, car accidents can quickly cut short the life of a loved one. One family in Maryland is dealing with this reality after they recently lost their family member in a fatal motor vehicle accident.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of a day in May, shortly after 2:30 a.m. Police reports indicate that a sedan was traveling south on a Maryland road when it entered the northbound lanes. It then collided head-on with another vehicle.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the second vehicle ultimately died from his injuries. Although the first driver suffered serious injuries, he is expected to survive. It is unclear at this time if police suspect alcohol to have been a contributing factor or if criminal charges are anticipated. In fatal accidents, the authorities typically arrange for blood tests of the drivers involved.

When a family loses a loved one in such an unexpected way, they are often left with a great deal of uncertainty, especially in regards to their financial future. In addition to medical bills and funeral expenses, the family may also have to cope with a loss of income. In order to focus on the healing process, others who have lost a family member as a result of car accidents have sought financial relief in a Maryland civil court. Many who have been able to successfully argue that their loved one died as a result of another’s negligence were awarded with monetary damages as allowed under Maryland law.
