Child suffers traumatic brain injury in accident

The complications of a brain injury are sometimes referred to as hidden disabilities, as those impacted may not feel any direct effects as they recover. These types of injuries may take months or even years before the actual symptoms appear. Some victims may appear to have made full recoveries while others may still experience chronic problems with their concentration and memory. As the prognosis for a traumatic brain injury is often uncertain, anyone suffering a TBI in Maryland is best advised to seek proper medical attention as quickly as possible.

A young girl was a victim of a recent car accident, suffering a brain injury and two broken legs. The accident occurred out of state on a recent Thursday night in February, police said. The girl was hospitalized in critical condition.

The 9-year-old had gotten out of her mother’s vehicle and was about to cross the street when she was struck by a passing car. She reportedly flew 50 feet in the air before landing and getting pinned underneath another vehicle. Witnesses were able to lift the vehicle off of the victim.  The vehicle that struck the girl never stopped, and the driver has yet to be located.

A traumatic brain injury can be a life-changing, catastrophic or even fatal. When a Maryland resident suffers a TBI due to the negligence of another party, a personal injury lawyer may be able to help investigate and review the facts and circumstances and decide upon an appropriate course of action. In so doing, the attorney can help the victim — or the surviving family in the event of a fatal accident — pursue a monetary award to cover all applicable documented losses.
