Recent Maryland car accident

There are a multitude of traffic laws -- from obeying stop and posted speed limit signs to staying in the correct lane of traffic -- that are intended to keep Maryland residents safe . While some motorists may, from time to time, be tempted to ignore a law or two, some laws, if broken -- especially laws surrounding the use of alcohol and speed-- may lead directly to another person's death. For example, one motorist who was allegedly driving drunk and speeding was involved in a car accident that took the life of a child.

The accident occurred in Baltimore on a recent Saturday night in late September. It happened around 4:37 p.m., when first-responders were first alerted to a crash between two vehicles. Apparently a 26-year-old man was driving west at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred.

They believe that the first car crossed the road's double yellow line and crashed into an SUV that was in the eastbound lane. Due to the force of the collision, a passenger in the second vehicle -- an 11-year-old girl -- was thrown from the car. She was rushed to a local medical center, where she later died.

Investigators say that they believe the driver of the first vehicle may have been impaired when the collision occurred and that both alcohol and speed may have been contributing facts. When a car accident like this occurs in Maryland, it is typically helpful to consult an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney can assess the viability of a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. When victims are able to prove that his or her injuries were caused by another motorist's negligence, he or she is typically awarded monetary damages by a civil court to help diminish the financial blow that often accompanies being involved in a serious car accident.
