Recent Maryland car accident kills 2

Two individuals were recently killed and a third was injured in a two-car accident, Maryland State Police say. The head-on collision occurred in McHenry, Garrett County on a recent Monday afternoon in May. Not all of the details surrounding the car accident remain clear, but authorities are continuing with their investigation.

A 63-year-old Hagerstown woman was driving a vehicle in the southbound lane of U.S. Route 219. For reasons that are not currently known, the woman's car crossed the road's double yellow line, veering over into the northbound lane of traffic. Her vehicle crashed head-on with another car that was traveling north.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the accident scene, authorities said. The other driver, a 71-year-old Grantsville woman, as well as her 49-year-old male Grantsville passenger, were taken to a local hospital. Police said that the second driver later died at the hospital, while the passenger's condition remains unknown.

It is possible that the family of the deceased or the injured passenger may choose to claims for damages from the deceased driver's estate. It must be proven that the first driver's negligence caused or contributed to the other driver's death and her passengers injuries. When a fatal car accident like this one occurs in Maryland, victims -- including the surviving families of deceased victims -- typically choose to consult an experienced personal injury attorney to determine what legal steps may be appropriate with regard to any potential claims for monetary damages based upon the negligence of another party to the collision.
