$10.1 million awarded in medical malpractice case

A jury in another state awarded $10.1 million to a mother and son in a medical malpractice case recently. The jury determined that the physicians at the children's hospital where the son was treated failed to make a timely diagnosis of the son's bacterial meningitis after he had made several trips to the emergency room where they worked. When the medical conditions or injuries of Maryland residents are caused or worsened by medical professionals or their employers, those injured retain the right to file a medical malpractice suit against the parties believed responsible.

$21.5M verdict follows man's brain injury on cruise ship

In Maryland, when an individual suffers a brain injury due to another party's negligence, he or she may be legally entitled to file a claim against that party for damages incurred as a result of the injury. A jury sitting in a U.S. District Court recently awarded a man $21.5 million in damages for a brain injury he suffered in November 2011, according to court documents and the man's attorney. The out-of-state businessman apparently suffered a brain injury due to being hit in the head by an automatic sliding glass door on a cruise ship.

Child awarded $9.6 million in medical malpractice case

A federal judge awarded a young girl $9.6 million in damages in a recent medical malpractice case. The judge ruled that the 3-year-old girl suffered a brain injury during birth. Similar rulings are common in Maryland civil courts when medical malpractice cases involve birth injuries.

Elderly pedestrian hit and killed in car accident

When a car accident in Maryland occurs, the individuals involved often say that, although it happened in an instant, time seemed to slow down for a few moments. Luckily, if the car accident wasn't too serious, after one another's information has been exchanged, both parties head their separate ways, shaken. However, when a car accident involves a pedestrian, the outcome is rarely as benign.

Man suffers brain injury, judge awards nearly $18 million

Maryland residents might be familiar with the story of an out-of-state man who suffered a brain injury last year by falling off a golf cart. He was recently awarded close to $17.88 million. This personal injury verdict regarding the traumatic brain injury came after a non-jury trial before a judge. It was against a local company that managed the golf course, an affiliated apartment complex as well as its related entities.
