Truck accidents have potential of inflicting severe injury

With all the attention in the news recently about airplane crashes, many people might decide they would rather drive than fly. However, the truth remains that traveling by air is still safer than traveling by car. One major hazard while traveling by car is truck accidents. While most truck drivers are skilled and conscientious, these type of accidents still happen, with a large potential of causing death or serious injury. For example, one woman is in critical condition this morning after a collision with a tractor-trailer in Maryland.

The accident occurred in late-July, closing one road in Maryland for over five hours. According to police reports, the 63-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was trying to turn left. Unfortunately, he allegedly turned into the path of a car driven by a 28-year-old woman.

Reportedly, the front end of the car was separated from the rest of the car. The woman was airlifted to a local hospital and listed in critical condition. No information regarding potential criminal charges has been provided, likely because the investigation remains in its preliminary stages.

This woman will likely face a long and difficult recovery due to her injuries. As a result, she will likely have rapidly escalating medical bills as well as lost income from missed time on the job. As with other victims of Maryland truck accidents, she has the option of filing a case in a civil court. If she can prove that the accident occurred as a result of the truck driver's negligence, she could receive monetary compensation to cover her medical expenses, lost wages and other damages permissible under our personal injury laws.
