Head-on collision in Maryland sends 6 to hospital

A three-day holiday weekend is often a cause for celebration. The reprieve from work for one additional day seems to put even the most disgruntled employees in a chipper mood. But as with any social festivities, caution should be taken when heading out on Maryland roads. The number of auto accidents increase when more people are out, young drivers take to the road and alcohol is thrown into the mix. Six local teens and their families are reeling after a recent head-on collision sent the teenagers to the hospital.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 29, 2017 in Washington County. Maryland State Police responded to a call slightly before 8:30 p.m. It is believed that a minivan was making a left hand turn into a driveway. Apparently, the driver did not realize that another, smaller car was heading straight for them. The smaller car hit the minivan head on.

The two passengers and the driver of the minivan were all juveniles and were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The 19-year-old male driver of the car was flown to local hospital for treatment. A juvenile passenger and a 19-year-old male passenger who were riding along were flown to a shock trauma center. Police are still investigating the incident.

An auto accident can range from a minor fender bender to a serious head-on collision that results in life-changing outcomes. Being ever vigilant while on the road and imparting the same knowledge to young drivers can make a difference between life and death. Maryland victims who have been injured in a car accident due to another driver’s negligence could file a civil lawsuit. Monies retained from a successful lawsuit could help to cover the expenses incurred as a direct result from the car accident.
