Negligence cited in fatal Maryland car accident

Getting into the car with a friend is often never given a second thought. Placing one's life in the hands of someone we have known for years or someone we have just met but made that special connection with causes many to let their guard down. When negligence, alcohol and fast cars are added into the mix, the results can be devastating and deadly.

A Maryland woman from Edgewater woman has recently been indicted on several charges stemming from a fatal car accident that killed one and critically injured two others. The accident occurred last year on June 17 around 10:30 p.m. An investigation determined that the 34-year-old woman failed to execute a turn and lost control of the vehicle. Speed was also considered a factor.

The front-seat passenger in the vehicle, a 44-year-old male, was killed in the crash. One of the back-seat passengers was not buckled in and was thrown from the car. The 31-year-old was flown to a local trauma center where he recovered from life-threatening injuries. A 31-year-old female had to be extracted from the car and transported to the same local trauma center with critical injuries.

The surviving families and victims of the car accident could be left with mounting medical bills, lost wages and/or final expenses to cover. The injured victims may be able to seek compensation by establishing negligence through a personal injury claim in civil court, while the surviving family of the deceased passenger is entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Should the driver of the accident be found guilty of the criminal charges brought against her, the chances for a successful lawsuit in civil court Maryland will likely increase.
