Man suffers traumatic brain injury after accident

The complications of a brain injury are often referred to as hidden disabilities, because those who suffer one may not feel any direct effects initially. These types of injuries can take months or years before their actual symptoms appear. Victims may appear to have made full recoveries, but may still experience chronic problems with concentration and memory. As the injury is so prevalent and the prognosis so uncertain, those individuals in Maryland resident who believe they may have suffered a traumatic brain injury are strongly advised to seek proper medical attention immediately.

An out-of-state man recently suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) when he was struck by a vehicle operated by a suspected drunk driver. The accident happened on a recent Monday afternoon in late December. The man is currently in critical condition in a neuro-intensive care unit.

The 65-year-old was riding a tractor when he was rear-ended by a car. He was thrown from the tractor and suffered a traumatic brain injury. The car driver was arrested after the crash, after he apparently failed a Breathalyzer test. His blood-alcohol content was reportedly .26 percent -- over triple the legal driving limit for Indiana. He is now facing multiple charges in relation to the accident.

While diagnosing a traumatic brain injury may be difficult, living with it long term is worse. In the event a Maryland resident suffers this kind of injury due to the negligence of another, a personal injury claim in civil court against the party believed responsible may be appropriate. Victims typically begin this process by consulting with an experienced Maryland personal injury attorney in order to establish the validity of their claim and explore options for financial relief.
