Alcohol may have factored in recent car accident

When a car accident occurs in Maryland, sometimes the individuals involved are seriously injured. One moment they are driving down the road without a care in the world but, after the accident, they may be up to their ears in medical bills, wondering at the fact that life can change so quickly. A recent car accident in which alcohol may have played a role sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

The accident occurred in early July in Annapolis. Just before midnight, emergency crews responded to a reported car crash. According to the investigators, a 41-year-old man who was driving a pickup truck failed to stop when he approached a stop sign. The truck crashed into a  car that was turning left at the intersection, connecting forcibly with the driver’s side of the car.

The fire department had to cut the driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, free from his vehicle. He was airlifted to a local medical center, as he had suffered critical injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, who suffered minor injuries, was suspected of driving under the influence. Police also say that excessive speed factored in the crash.

When an individual is injured in a car accident, he or she might decide to pursue a civil claim against the at-fault driver. If it is proved in a Maryland court that the negligence of the other driver caused or was a contributing factor in causing the victim’s injuries, it is possible that financial compensation will be awarded to him or her. Compensation derived can be used to pay for lost pay, medical bills, as well as to compensate for pain and suffering. An experienced attorney who is knowledgeable about the process of filing a personal injury claim is often consulted to first determine the validity of the claim and then to assist in pursuing justice through the civil court system.
