Maryland car accidents can result in financial difficulty

Driving or riding in a car is an activity in which the vast majority of Americans participate. Because it is such a common activity, it is easy to overlook the potential risks. For example, even what most people would consider safe maneuvers could cause car accidents that result in death or serious injuries. One driver's recent attempt to make a u-turn in Maryland has resulted in the death of one and injury to three others.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours of a mid-December day. Reports indicate that a 28-year-old driver attempted to make a u-turn. As she did so, her vehicle was struck by a second car driven by a 32-year-old male. The driver of the first car and her two passengers were transported to an area hospital where the driver and one passenger are still being treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries soon afterwards. Police continue to investigate the accident, and there is no information currently available on possible charges.

The accident is a reminder of the repercussions of car accidents in Maryland. In a single accident, three people were injured -- two seriously -- and one man killed. The injured people will face stacks of medical bills and potentially lost wages as they recover from their injuries. The family of the deceased driver will face funeral expenses and other financial burdens as a result of his death. If it can be proven that the accident was caused by the driver's negligence, a civil court could order monetary damages to be paid in order to offset the financial burdens created by the accident.
